Yep the big one. The Dubbo Stampede’s marathon, the Rhino Ramble! 
 
This marathon is like no other. With the right preparation, why not make this year your year to cross the finish line?
 
The 2025 event will be held on Sunday 7th September from Ollie Robins Oval.

We have training plans available for the Rhino Ramble. If you are a new marathoner or a more seasoned participant, we have got you covered.
 
Your registration includes your finishers’ medal, recovery zone, fully stocked aid stations, water bottle and a free shirt for early bird registrations. You must be over 18 to enter the marathon. The course is measured to World Athletics Standards and certified as such.

Prize money

Prize money is available for both male and female place-getters

The Rhino Ramble course record jackpot prizes are currently $600 male (last broken in 2022) and $1,200 female.

Marshaling Time

6.20 am for a 6.30 am start- Please make sure you are at the start line at Ollie Robins Oval (Bligh St, behind Coles). Allow plenty of time to get to the race precinct at Ollie Robins, from parking areas located along Bligh St. Any special needs should be dropped at the bib pickup area by 6.00am or on Saturday during registration.

Start time is 6.30 am sharp.

Cut off to complete race is 6 hours.

There will be 2 portaloo at the marshaling area at the entry gates, plus the following on the Rhino Ramble course. Portaloos are also at the race precinct.

Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION 2025 Marathon

The course starts and finishes at Ollie Robins oval but still heads through the whole Zoo.

There will be no long run down the Obley Rd, this will be made up by completing the whole Zoo loop.

Start is at OLLIE ROBINS OVAL.

  1. Start at the start line at Ollie Robbins Oval.

  2. Head north towards the Serisier Bridge which is a low level bridge.

  3. At the end of the bridge veer left under the rail bridge and head along the dirt path closest to the river.

  4. Continue along the path until you hit a concrete path and go across a carpark and under the LHFord vehicle bridge.  

  5. Keeping the river on your left, follow the concrete path until you pass an aid station and across a yellow and green small pedestrian bridge.

  6. As you cross the bridge you will veer right.  This path will take you to Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

  7. When you reach the zoo, you will cross the road at the Marshal’s and Traffic Control and enter the zoo, keeping to the left of the main gate.

  8. Stay on the left of the zoo entry on the path.

  9. Once through the main gates you will come to roundabout and take the second exit, we will have signs and Volunteers to guide you.  

  10. Complete the full Zoo circuit anti-clockwise then head towards the zoo exit to the Marshal who will direct you back across the road onto the concrete path.

  11. Turn right at the Marshal and head south down Obley Rd.

  12. Turn left at the Marhsal at the Dundullimal Homestead gates. Follow the bitumen path. You will see a toilet on your left hand side a very short way in so keep an eye out.

  13. Always stay to the LEFT-HAND side on the bitumen path as you head down towards the river.

  14. Head along the path across the Shibble Bridge and up a rise before coming to Macquarie Street.

  15. Turn left (north) on Macquarie Street and stick to the left bicycle and footpaths.

  16. You will cross one road and some driveways, so keep an eye out for vehicles.

  17. You will spot our Marshal’s who will point you left through gates where you will head down onto the weir track towards the river on a dirt path.

  18. Keep following the path along the river’s edge until you reach the Tamworth Street carpark.  There will be an aid station here.

  19. Turn left on the concrete path and down and across the Tamworth Street Foot Bridge.

  20. Follow the concrete path until you get to a ‘y’ junction where you will turn left and head back up towards Obley Road and start of LAP 2

  21. Turn left onto Obley Road and continue on the concrete path heading east keeping Obley Road to your right. 

  22. Turn left at the Marhsal at the Dundullimal Homestead gates. Follow the bitumen path. You will see a toilet on your left hand side a very short way in so keep an eye out.

  23. Always stay to the LEFT-HAND side on the bitumen path as you head down towards the river.

  24. Head along the path across the Shibble Bridge and up a rise before coming to Macquarie Street.

  25. Turn left (north) on Macquarie Street and stick to the left bicycle and footpaths.

  26. You will cross one road at Huckel Street and some driveways, so keep an eye out for vehicles.

  27. You will spot our Marshal’s who will point you left through gates where you will head down onto the weir track towards the river on a dirt path.

  28. Keep following the path along the river’s edge until you reach the Tamworth Street carpark.  There will be an aid station here.

  29. Run across the carpark and keep heading north around the Tracker Riley River Track towards Sandy Beach.  There will be two toilet opportunities and another aid station.

  30. Keep following the path and soon you will be able to hear the sounds of cheers and loud music BUT don’t get to excited because you still have your final lap to go 😊

  31. Keep to you left as head towards the Precinct Area.  We will have the left hand side of the course blocked off from other events as you run back past the START line and start your final LAP 3.

  32. Head north towards the Serisier Bridge and back over the low level bridge.

  33. At the end of the bridge veer left under the rail bridge and head along the dirt path closest to the river as per Lap 1.

  34. Continue along the path until you hit a concrete path and go across a carpark and under the LHFord vehicle bridge.  

  35. Keeping the river on your left, follow the concrete path until you pass an aid station and across a yellow and green small pedestrian bridge.

  36. Keep following the concrete pack up towards Obley Road.

  37. Turn left onto Obley Road and continue on the concrete path heading east keeping Obley Road to your right. 

  38. Turn left at the Marhsal at the Dundullimal Homestead gates. Follow the bitumen path. You will see a toilet on your left hand side a very short way in so keep an eye out.

  39. Always stay to the LEFT-HAND side on the bitumen path as you head down towards the river.
